Joint symposium: A success!

Advancements in Monitoring Food Contamination and Quality: International Experts Gather in Tulln

On 27-28 November 2024, the PHOTONFOOD, DigiFoods, FoodSafeR, and BIOTOXDoc projects successfully hosted a joint symposium under the theme “Advancements in Monitoring Food Contamination and Quality” at IFA-Tulln, Austria. The event brought together 90 registered participants, including prominent scientists, industry representatives, and emerging researchers from across Europe.

Engaging Scientific Programme

The symposium featured keynote presentations from distinguished experts such as Prof. Chris Elliott, Prof. Goran Mashanovich, and Prof. Gottfried Strasser. Their talks addressed cutting-edge developments in food safety, photonic sensing technologies, and innovative analytical methods.

In addition to lectures, the event offered a dynamic mix of technical presentations, flash talks, and a vibrant poster exhibition, showcasing the latest research outcomes. Researchers had the unique opportunity to present their work, with the three best poster contributions receiving special recognition.

Showcasing innovative prototypes

A key highlight was the presentation of newly developed photonic prototypes from the PHOTONFOOD project. These technologies, designed for real-time monitoring of food contamination and quality, drew significant interest from the expert audience, sparking insightful discussions about future industry applications.

Networking and cultural exchange

Beyond its scientific agenda, the symposium facilitated valuable networking opportunities. Attendees shared knowledge and explored future collaborations during coffee breaks, poster sessions, and a dedicated networking dinner at a traditional Austrian Heuriger.

We thank our co-organisers from FoodSafeR and DigiFoods as well as BIOTOXDoc for their contributions!
